What are the defects?
Due to incorrect tolerances in the driveline, corrosion may occur between the inner bearing race of the needle roller bearing and the bearing seat of the input shaft, possibly compromising the bearing sealing ring. Due to increased wear, this may lead to excessive play at the rear wheel.
What are the hazards?
Increased play at the rear wheel could reduce the rider’s ability to control the motorcycle, particularly while cornering or braking. Aggravated wear of the bearing could also cause premature and sudden bearing failure, possibly resulting in loss of control.
What should consumers do?
Consumers should contact an authorised BMW Motorrad Dealer, or call the BMW Group Australia Customer Interaction Centre on freecall: 1 800 813 299.
