What are the defects?
The Frequency Operated Button Ignition Key (FOBIK) may stick between the 'START' and 'RUN' position. This may result in the loss of certain electrical features. For example the defect may result in a loss of engine power, power steering assist, and/or power brake booster assist. In addition, the FOBIK spring back may also cause the disabling of one or more of the vehicle's safety features including the frontal airbags.
What are the hazards?
The loss of any of these features could increase the risk of crash under certain driving conditions and could increase the risk of vehicle occupant injury during a crash.
What should consumers do?
FCA Australia will notify vehicle owners who should take their vehicle to a Jeep dealership where the recall will be conducted. Upon inspection of the vehicle by the authorised dealer, it will be determined whether replacement parts will be required. If you are not contacted but you think your car is affected then please contact FCA Australia on 1300 133 079.
