What are the defects?
If the engine is operated at high revs in an unloaded condition (either Park or Neutral) residual oil that may accumulate in the engine intake system may be drawn into the engine and result in an engine over run condition.
What are the hazards?
If the engine goes into an over run condition, this may cause the engine to run at high RPM uncontrollably until the engine either fails or is damaged. This may pose a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users.
What should consumers do?
Mazda Australia will contact all affected customers. Owners of affected vehicles will be advised to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda Dealer for a revised PCM calibration to be installed at no charge.
