What are the defects?
After investigation it was found that due to poor fitment of the oil seal (Gap between the oil seal and needles in the bearing cap) there were some bearing caps where it is possible that a needle could have dropped out during transportation from the supplier in US to the assembly plant Japan. Also a lack of grease applied between the cross pin and the bearing cap was identified.
If a vehicle is operated under such conditions, the cross pins may seize in a short period of time. In the worst case scenario the driveshaft universal joint could fail allowing the driveshaft to become disconnected and disable the vehicle.
