What are the defects?

The 12 volt AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery located in the rear of the luggage compartment may have been replaced prior to/or after sale, with a non-AGM battery supplied by Mitsubishi Motors Australia. A non-AGM battery is more likely to release hydrogen sulphide gas in the event of battery failure and if the vehicle is involved in a collision there is the potential that acid could leak.

What are the hazards?

The spilling of acid or gas leak increases the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants.

What should consumers do?

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Mitsubishi Motors (Corporate) and are asked to make arrangements with their nearest authorised dealer to have the work carried out as soon as possible. If the battery was supplied by Mitsubishi Motors Australia this work will be provided free of charge.
