What are the defects?
The engines contain valve springs that could have been produced with corrosive pitting on the surface of the spring. The corrosive pitting could lead to fatigue cracks, which could result in breakage of the valve spring over time.
What are the hazards?
If the fault occurs, the driver may notice an abnormal noise and rough engine performance. In some cases, the engine could stall while the vehicle is being driven, increasing the risk of a rear end collision.
What should consumers do?
Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a campaign notification by mail at their last known address instructing them to take the vehicle to their preferred Toyota dealer for replacement of all the valve springs at no charge to the owner.
