What are the defects?
Affected vehicles are equipped with a vacuum pump that provides vacuum for the brake booster operation. A lubrication passage inside the vacuum pump may have been compromised during manufacture. This may cause an internal failure of the vacuum pump leading to illumination of warning lights and alerts, and/or resulting in a sudden loss of braking assist.
What are the hazards?
A sudden loss of braking assist while driving could increase the risk of a crash.
What should consumers do?
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by letter from Toyota Australia, asking them to contact a Toyota dealership to arrange replacement of the vacuum pump free of charge.
