VIN (Vehicle identification number)

What are the defects?

The vehicles have improper programming in the ECU (controls the hybrid system and transmission), when the accelerator pedal is depressed quickly during normal driving conditions, the ECU commanding transmission may not shift gears within the required time period.

What are the hazards?

If this were to occur, warning lights will illuminate and the hybrid system will shut down, resulting in the loss of motive power (but not power steering or braking assist). Loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds could increase the risk of an accident and injury to a vehicle occupant or other road users. In the event of a serious accident this may result in death.
