What are the defects?
The passenger seat occupant sensor may not meet manufacturing specifications. This sensor is used to detect if the seat is occupied and determine whether to deploy the passenger airbag in the event of an accident. If the sensor does not operate as intendent, it may result in an airbag not deploying when required.
What are the hazards?
In the event of an accident an airbag not deploying as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.
What should consumers do?
Owners of affected vehicle can contact Toyota and make an appointment at their preferred Toyota dealer for inspection and if required calibration of the occupant sensor, free of charge.
