What are the defects?

Due to a manufacturing defect, the front seat belt Automatic Locking Retractors (ALR) may engage earlier than intended and lock the retractor when an occupant is attempting to fasten the seatbelt. This may result in the vehicle occupants being unable to correctly fasten the seat belt as intended.

What are the hazards?

The seatbelts not operating as intended could leave the vehicle occupants without the primary safety restraint.

The affected vehicles do not comply with Australian Design Rule 04/06 – Seatbelts.

What should consumers do?

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by General Motors Australia and New Zealand Pty Ltd in writing requesting they contact their local dealer to have the retractor replaced, free of charge.
