The lock nut at the strike button on the portable fire extinguisher may not be mounted. If the fire extinguisher is activated and no lock nut is present, the strike button assembly, with integrated piercer is ejected under pressure from the fire extinguisher.

What are the hazards?

If the lock nut is not present and extinguisher activated, the strike button assembly can eject under pressure and increase the risk of injury to the user, in addition to this scenario; propellant and powder may leak from the exposed opening leading to the fire extinguisher not operating correctly. In the event of a fire this will increase the risk of injury and/or death to the user.
